Modern Foreign Languages

At Wath Victoria Primary School, we recognise the importance of providing our pupils with a high-quality modern foreign languages (MFL) curriculum that aligns with the National Curriculum. Our chosen MFL subject is Spanish, due to this being the subject the children study when the move to our main feeder secondary school.

Our MFL curriculum, which is based on the Twinkl scheme of work, is designed to ensure clear progression in the key areas of speaking, listening, and writing across all year groups. This approach allows our pupils to build a solid foundation in the Spanish language, enabling them to engage in simple conversations, understand short texts, and produce basic written work by the end of Key Stage 2.

The Twinkl scheme of work has been carefully selected to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum for MFL, which emphasises the importance of developing pupils' communicative competence in the target language. The scheme provides a structured and sequenced approach to language learning, ensuring that our pupils develop a strong grasp of vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation, as well as an understanding of the cultural aspects of the Spanish-speaking world.
