Art & DT

At Wath Victoria Primary School, our art and design and technology curriculum is designed to provide our pupils with a broad, balanced, and ambitious learning experience that aligns with the National Curriculum and supports the unique needs and priorities of our school community.

Our curriculum is structured around the KAPOW mixed-age scheme of work, which allows us to deliver a practical, theoretical, and disciplinary-focused curriculum that promotes progression and coherence across the primary phase. This approach is particularly well-suited to our mixed year-groups , as it enables us to effectively manage the needs of pupils across different year groups while ensuring a clear and logical sequence of learning.

The KAPOW curriculum provides a comprehensive framework that covers the key aspects of art and design and technology, including drawing, painting, sculpture, textiles, structures, mechanisms, and electrical systems. This breadth of content ensures that our pupils develop a deep and well-rounded understanding of these subject areas, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to become confident, creative, and critical thinkers.

Through a carefully sequenced series of termly units, pupils build upon their prior knowledge and skills, developing a secure and interconnected schema that allows them to apply their understanding in increasingly complex and sophisticated ways.
